The lecture examine the question of poverty in Ireland and the response we have made in An Cosan, a large Community Development Organisation that has three operations - an early childhood education centre called Rainbow House, and education and training centre for adults who live with poverty called The Shanty Educational Training Centre and thirly and enterprise related to childcare and training.
Rainbow House caters for 40 children fulltime from the age of 6weeks to 4 years, along with a further 100 children on a sessional basis, for example - taking the children of women during the time that their mothers are at their own courses.
An Cosan has a second operation for 400 adult women and men who are returning to education and training. All of these adults would have left school early and would never have had the opportunity to invest in their education.
The third operation is an enterprise and trains people in the local
community as professional childcare workers.
Two DVD's films illustrate the elements of this three operations.
