The University of Warsaw was founded in 1816. It is only the largest university but also the best scientific centre in Poland.
\nNearly 40 thousand students and doctoral candidates are educated in its organisational structures. Teaching and research are offered not only at 21 faculties and four doctoral schools, but also at interdisciplinary units, as well as academic and research centres.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The high quality of teaching is reflected in the results of various rankings. According to these, the University of Warsaw is among the top 3% of universities in the world.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The university has six Nobel Prize winners among its alumni. The university’s strategic goals include strengthening its international position and building a good reputation among the best European research universities.<\/span><\/p>\n

International research networks<\/b><\/h3>\n

University of Warsaw is a member of almost <\/span>100 international research networks<\/span><\/a>, including: <\/span>\u00a0Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research<\/span><\/a> (ICPSR),<\/span> International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion<\/span><\/a> (IMISCOE), <\/span>Research Network, Central & Eastern European Network of Indian Studies<\/span><\/a> (CEENIS), <\/span>European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics<\/span><\/a> (ERCIM), <\/span>Global Biodiversity Information Facility<\/span><\/a> (GBIF), <\/span>Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities <\/span><\/a>(DARIAH-ERIC), <\/span>Copernicus Alliance<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>UNEP \u2013 Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability<\/span><\/a> (GUPES).<\/span><\/p>\n

Location<\/b><\/h3>\n

The university life concentrates in three campuses: Central, Ochota and S\u0142u\u017cew, located in different districts of Warsaw. The University\u2019s historic seat, located in the heart of Warsaw, is widely appreciated for its elegant architecture. Impressive edifices, dating back to 17th century, rank high among Warsaw\u2019s sightseeing musts.<\/span><\/p>\n

The University Library, built in the vicinity of the main campus at the turn of this century, has opened a new chapter in the University\u2019s architectural design. The new facilities built since then are not only modern and functional but also architecturally intriguing. The natural science departments\u2019 campus has recently gained imposing new buildings, housing state-of-the-art laboratories. These facilities provide their users with comfortable work and study areas, and interestingly arranged recreational spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n
