Guidelines for Preparing a Book Chapter /Article (APA 7)

  1. Length and Structure
  • A standard book chapter should be 6,000–8,000 words, including in-text citations but excluding the reference list.
  • Required components:
    • Title of chapter
    • Author name and affiliation
    • Abstract (150–250 words)
    • 5–7 keywords
    • Main text with clear headings (APA 7 style)
    • References (APA 7)
    • Tables/Figures placed after the reference list or submitted separately
  1. Formatting Requirements
  • Font: Times New Roman 12 pt (main text), 10 pt for tables/figures if needed.
  • Spacing: Double-spaced throughout (including abstract, references, block quotes).
  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
  • Paragraphs: Indent the first line of each paragraph by 0.5 inches (1.27 cm).
  • Alignment: Left-aligned (not justified).
  • Page numbers: Top right corner, starting on page 1.
  • Headings: Use APA 7 heading levels (1–3 usually sufficient).
  1. APA 7 In-Text Citations
  • Paraphrase: (Surname, year).
  • Direct quote: (Surname, year, p. xx).
  • Use et al. after the first citation for 3+ authors.
  • Ensure all citations match the reference list.
  1. APA 7 Reference List
  • Begin on a new page titled “References” (bold, centered).
  • Double-spaced, hanging indent 0.5 inches.
  • Alphabetical order by author surname.
  • Include DOIs in URL format where available.
  • Examples:
    • Book: Surname, A. A. (Year). Title in italics. Publisher.
    • Chapter: Surname, A. A. (Year). Title of chapter. In B. B. Editor (Ed.), Book title (pp. xx–xx). Publisher.
    • Article: Surname, A. A. (Year). Title of article. Journal Name, volume(issue), pages. https://doi.org/xxx
  1. Tables, Figures, and Illustrations
  • Number tables and figures consecutively (Table 1, Figure 1, etc.).
  • Each requires a title and source note (if applicable) in APA 7 style.
  • Submit images separately in high resolution (300 DPI).
  1. Style and Language
  • Write in clear academic English.
  • Avoid contractions and informal language.
  • Use active voice where possible.
  • Follow APA guidelines for bias-free and inclusive language (gender, race, disability, age, etc.).
  1. Ethics and Permissions
  • Obtain permissions for copyrighted images, long quotations, or reproduced tables.
  • Ensure originality; avoid plagiarism.
  • Disclose funding or conflicts of interest if required by the editor.
