The Department of Social and Cultural Contexts of Pedagogy conducts interdisciplinary research encompassing a wide range of pedagogical subdisciplines, including:

• cultural pedagogy,
• intercultural pedagogy,
• social pedagogy,
• special pedagogy,
• andragogy,
• philosophy of education,
• the history of education,
• educational policy.

The Department’s key areas of interest include issues related to the role of society in education, the development of civic attitudes, the influence of culture and the arts on human development and upbringing, the recognition of cultural diversity and creative activities, and the historical perspectives on pedagogical issues. Particular attention is also given to the idea of inclusivity and the active participation of students with special educational needs.

The diverse research interests of the Department’s academic staff and their interdisciplinary approach to pedagogical issues are reflected in the teaching activities carried out at the University of Warsaw.
Members of the Department are actively involved in the University’s teaching process at all levels of higher education, including undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes.
