Erasmus+ Short-term Blended Traineeships (SMT-k)

Short-term Blended Traineeships (SMT-k) are a type of traineeship combining physical and virtual mobility, designed to facilitate teamwork and experience exchange through collaborative e-learning. For example, as part of the virtual component, a shared online space can be created for learners from different countries and fields of study, allowing them to work together simultaneously on tasks recognized as part of their academic program.

For organizing short-term blended traineeships, Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreements are not required. However, arrangements regarding the number of participants, description of the traineeship program, and other details should be documented in writing, at minimum via email correspondence. To ensure high-quality blended traineeships, their organization is limited to institutions holding an ECHE (Erasmus Charter for Higher Education), particularly universities within the 4EU+ alliance (Charles University, Czech Republic; University of Heidelberg, Germany; Sorbonne University, France; University of Copenhagen, Denmark; University of Milan, Italy).

Programme countries refer to one of the following: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Netherlands, Liechtenstein, Ireland, Iceland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, North Macedonia, Malta, Germany, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, Hungary, Italy.

Types of mobility:
a) Physical mobility – refers to traveling abroad to the country of the institution offering the blended traineeship to complete the agreed program. The host country must be a programme country, different from both the sending institution’s country and the student’s country of residence during studies. The minimum duration is 5 days, and the maximum is 30 days, excluding travel days.
b) Virtual mobility – refers to completing the traineeship entirely online outside the country of the host institution, enabling teamwork and experience exchange through e-learning. For students, the virtual mobility component is mandatory, while for doctoral candidates and PhD School participants it is optional.
